Shirley Ann (Croftcheck) Guthrie
Shirley Ann (Croftcheck) Guthrie, age 76, Centerville, Pa., died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was born Sunday, December 26, 1937 in Brier Hill, Pa., daughter of John Croftcheck and Mary Votano Croftcheck
Shirley graduated from Uniontown High School, Class of 1956.
After graduation, she worked in a factory making bombs to aid the war effort during the Korean War.
She was a self-employed entrepreneur, owning and operating several area businesses.
Mrs. Guthrie was a m e m b e r o f t h e Garwood Baptist Church, Daisytown, Pa.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing and attending numerous sewing and quilting club events. Her quilting gained her numerous awards in competitions in county and state fairs.
She was also a very talented cook and a most devoted mother and grandmother.
Shopping and walking for exercise brought her special enjoyment.
On June 11, 1955, Shirley married Charles S. “Skip” Guthrie. He died October 31, 1994.
Also deceased are her parents; brothers, John Croftcheck and Edward Croftcheck; and sisters, Pauline Bryson and Betty Lou Moore. A brother Eugene died in infancy.
Surviving are four children: Curtis Guthrie (Jennifer Schmidt) of Centerville, Pa., Sharon Konwinski (Robert) of Bradford, Pa., Edward Guthrie (Olivia) of New Freeport, Pa., and Kathy Semshack-Gizzie (Gary) of Richeyville, Pa.; ten grandchildren: Michele, Eddie, Joe, Wyatt, Rylie, Kenny, Steven, Crystal, Sydney and Shane; five great grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Croftcheck (Carol) of Uniontown, Pa.; one sister, Mary Jane Craft (Robert) of Uniontown, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. in JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, Pa., where Services will be held today, Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. with John Sweany officiating.
Interment will follow in the Taylor Cemetery, Brownsville, Pa.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the JEN Fund (Joyful Exciting New Day), 42 Black Dog Hollow Road, Clarksville, PA 15322.
