Michael Gabriel Kmetz
Michael Gabriel Kmetz age 87, Fairchance, Pa., passed away Thursday, April 03, 2014 with his loving family by his side.
He was born December 23, 1926 in Edenborn, Pa. son of Michael Kmetz Sr. and Lillian (Cielensky) Kmetz.
‘Mike’ graduated from Fairchance High School.
He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps serving during World War II.
He was employed for many years as an Engineer with PennDOT, Pennsylvaia Department of Transportation, until his retirement.
He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown and also attended Ss. Cyril and M e t h o d i u s R o m a n C a t h o l i c Church in Fairchance.
‘Mike’ loved playing baseball as a Catcher with the Big Ten League, and enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing.
He also officiated at high school football games, high school baseball games, and high school girls’ softball games.
His parents; loving wife Maxine Kmetz; a sister, Elsie Hudock; and a brother, Edward Kmetz preceded him in death.
Surviving are his loving family, his children: Lisa Altmire and her husband Ted of Gilford, New Hampshire, Judy Staycer and her h u s b a n d S t e v e of Uniontown, Pa., Michael Kmetz and wife Crystal, DuBois, Pa., and Patricia Kmetz of Uniontown, Pa.; grandchildren: Joseph Altmire, Patrick Altmire B e n j a m i n Altmire, S t e v e n S t a y c e r, Samantha Jo Staycer, Michael Kmetz, Rachel Kmetz; great grandchild, Kaiden Michael Staycer; sister, Marlene Miller and husband Marvin of Uniontown, Pa.; brother, Tom Kmetz and wife Carolyn of Perryopolis, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, 50 North Morgantown Street, Fairchance, Pa., with Reverend Father Jaime Ozoa as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery Fairchance, Pa., with Military Rites accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
Vigil Service will be held in Funeral Home today at 3:45 p.m.
Visitation was also held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
‘Mike’ was a guest at Cherry Tree Nursing Center in Uniontown and the family would like to thank the personnel of Cherry Tree Nursing Center for all the quality care given to ‘Mike’.
