Brownsville snow removal cost over budget

By Steve Ferris sferris@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

The cost of treating roads during the harsh winter cost Brownsville Borough more than $5,000 than it had budgeted, a borough council member said.

Tuesday’s council meeting was canceled due to the lack of a quorum, but the agenda included a report about snow removal costs from Councilman Tom Bush, chairman of the public works department.

The borough spent $9,032 on ashes and $7,826 on salt.

The total of $16,859 is $5,359 over budget, Bush said.

“It hit everybody,” Bush said.

If the meeting had been held, he said, he would have suggested that council might have to cut back on spending during the year because of the higher than expected winter bills.

He said he might budget more money for snow removal next year.

Council members James Laver, president, Ross Swords Jr. and Bush and Mayor Lester Ward attended the meeting. At least four council members are needed for a quorum.
