DEP plans ‘brownfield’ workshop

Township, borough and county officials and economic and industrial development agencies have been invited to a free seminar about “brownfields” in the state Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) southwest regional office, 400 Waterfront Drive, in Pittsburgh from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 14.

Brownfields are properties with actual or anticipated hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants. The seminar will focus on redeveloping abandoned and vacant properties. Information about successful brownfield redevelopment projects and public funding will be presented. Lunch is provided, and space is limited.
