Mary S. (Sertich) Prodan, age 93, died on Monday, April 21, 2014 in her Carmichaels, Pennsylvania home.

Mrs. Prodan was born Tuesday, July 27, 1920 in Nemacolin, Pa., to Joseph Sertich and Effie (Palen) Sertich.

In May 1948, Mary married Alex W. Prodan.

Mrs. Prodan worked in the family business, the Sertich General Store, in her youth. The store was a gathering place during World War II for families trying to find out about their sons and daughters serving in the war and in war production.The store was one of the few places in the area at the time that had a telephone.

Mrs. Prodan was a member of Saint Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, the Altar-Rosary Society, the Choir, and the Senior Citizens Group.

Mary was proud of her Croatian heritage.

She and Alex loved to polka dance!

Her beloved husband Alex died on Thursday, August 18, 2005.

Also deceased are her parents; a b r o t h e r , Dr. Anthony P. Sertich; and two nephews, Joey Sertich, John J. Sertich.

Mrs. Prodan is survived by three children: Eve M. Smitley (Scott Kramer), Lex V. Prodan (Denise), Donald C. Prodan (Brenda) all of Carmichaels; five grand children: Tricia Pratt, Rachelle Katruska, Shaun Smitley, Travis A. Prodan, Grant A. Prodan; great grandchildren: Mason Pratt, Jillian Katruska and J a c o b Katruska; step-grandsons Jonathan Sloan, Joshua Sloan; a brother, Joseph Sertich Jr. (Stella) of Carmichaels, Pa.; sister, Josephine McGuiness of San Antonio, Texas; one sister-in-law, J e a n i e Sertich of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320 (724.966.5100), Paul M. Lesako, Funeral Director //Supervisor//Owner, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, April 25, from 9 to 10 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held in Funeral Home Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Hugh Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father John M. Bauer as Celebrant.

Interment follows in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa.

Parish Wake Service will be held in Funeral Home on Thursday at 6.
