Markleysburg woman killed in South Union crash
State police are investigating the cause of a single-vehicle accident that left a 19-year-old woman dead Monday morning in South Union Township.
Fayette County 911 said the accident occurred around 9 a.m. near the Walnut Hill Road entrance ramp next to the northbound lanes of Routes 119 and 40, killing Christina Yauger of Markleysburg.
Police said Yauger lost control of her Jeep Wrangler, which went off the road and hit an embankment close to the Walnut Hill bridge.
Yauger was ejected from the Jeep, Trooper Tonya Wroble said. Fayette County Coroner’s office pronounced Yauger dead at 10:02 a.m. Police did not list any other passengers as being in Yauger’s Jeep.
Routes 119 and 40 were closed for about two hours while police and emergency personnel cleared the accident scene and conducted their investigations.
Police were assisted at the scene by South Union Volunteer Fire Department and American Ambulance.
