Fayette EMS paramedics prepare to transport a person injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 51 at Ash Street near Phillips in North Union Township on Thursday. A man, (not pictured) died in the accident.

State police said that an 85-year-old Uniontown man was killed in an accident late Tuesday afternoon on Route 51 in North Union Township.

Fayette County Coroner’s office identified the man as Parren Ward, who was pronounced dead around 5 p.m. at the scene of the accident.

The coroner’s office said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and face. Pending toxicology test results, there will be no autopsy, the coroner’s office said.

Police said Ward was driving a Kia Soul. The driver of the other vehicle involved was identified as Eric Hice, 28, of Uniontown.

Hice was driving a Ford Fusion, police said.

Trooper Jason Hatalsky indicated that the 4:47 p.m. crash occurred when the unidentified man was stopped at a stop sign at the crossover of Route 51 and Smith Road.

The man proceeded through the intersection “and entered the path of” Hice’s vehicle, which was traveling northbound, police said.

The unidentified man died at the scene, Hatalsky said. Hice and unidentified passengers were taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
