Hopwood man arrested after police standoff

State police have a Hopwood man in custody following a Wednesday morning standoff at a home on Hopwood-Coolspring Road in North Union Township.
State police Lt. Douglas Bartoe said a woman and 2-year-old child were also in the house, but no injuries were reported.
Uniontown police confirmed that after the standoff, Jacob Randall Springer, 31, was arrested by state police.
Springer had been sought after by law enforcement following an alleged police chase Saturday in Uniontown.
According to the criminal complaint, the chase started around 9:41 p.m. with Uniontown police on Coolspring Street.
Police allege that Springer was traveling at a high rate of speed on Clarke Street when his vehicle turned onto Connellsville Street and crashed into a parked car, a Kia.
Police said the impact from the collision caused the Kia to spin 180 degrees before hitting a fence owned by Paul Collins of 224 Connellsville St.
The complaint said the crash caused $500 in damage to the fence.
Police said Christal Crawley, who was sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.
The complaint said the collision did not stop Springer, who sped away through an alley between Parks Casino and John Street.
Police allege that they broke off the pursuit so as to help Crawley.
Police said moments later when the search for Springer resumed, they found Springer’s vehicle, a silver Subaru, around 10:13 p.m. parked at a dead end of Chaffee Street Extension.
The complaint said Springer was not inside the vehicle.
Police deployed the K-9 — Xavier — to track Springer.
Police said the dog was able to track Springer from his vehicle through the woods by Atlas Crossing, but his scent was lost on the road.
Police allege that a search of Springer’s vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia — a hypodermic needle and a metal spoon.
Springer was nowhere to be found until Wednesday morning, when he was surrounded by police at a residence on Hopwood-Coolspring Road.
According to the complaint, Springer is charged with fleeing from police, two counts of reckless endangerment, having an accident involving death/injury, having an accident involving property damage, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and various traffic offenses.
Springer was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros, who set bond at $150,000. Springer was taken to Fayette County Prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday before Metros.
This was not the first time Springer has faced charges for allegedly fleeing police.
According to court documents, Springer was arrested by state police in December and charged with fleeing police and various traffic offenses. He is scheduled to face these charges later this year in the Court of Common Pleas.
According to court documents, Springer’s most recent arrest was on charges of simple assault, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment after his most recent arrest June 23 by state police in North Union Township. He was free on an unsecured $10,000 bond.
