Mario Anthony Roso
Mario Anthony Roso, age 84, Bethel Park, Pa., formerly of Uniontown, Pa., died on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
He was born on Friday October 25, 1929 to Giacomo ‘Jack’ and Gina Miola Roso in Moffett, Dunkard Township, Greene County, Pa.
In addition to his parents, Mario was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Norma Jeane (Blosser) Roso, just two months ago.
Mario also was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Roso; and brother-in-law, James Kosinski.
After his father was killed in a coal mining accident when Mario was only 14 years old, Mario himself went to work in the mines for several years.
A graduate of Mapletown High School, Mario enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean Conflict.
After the Army, he worked for various barge companies on the Monongahela and other local rivers.
He became the Agent for National Maritime Union of America, AFL-CIO, at the ports of Pittsburgh and Detroit.
Following retirement, Mario entered into a second career as Tipstaff for several judges on the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas in Uniontown.
Mario was a long-time member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.
He was active in The Knights of Columbus Council 1275, serving as Grand Knight for several terms.
He also was a past member of the American Legion Post 51, the Sons of Italy and the Uniontown Elks Lodge No. 370.
Mario had an engaging, friendly personality and never met a stranger.
He was hard-working and industrious, taking pride in effectively completing any task with which he was engaged.
He loved to cook, clean and tend to his home and yard.
Mario’s perseverance and strength of spirit were illustrated by the way he battled back from a devastating stroke in 2000 which left him with significant right side paralysis. His positive attitude, strong faith and many friends aided him in his recovery.
Mario was a life-long sports enthusiast, playing baseball and football in his youth and following all sports, particularly West Virginia University football, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Mario was extremely close to and proud of his three grandsons, following their activities and growth with interest and anticipation.
Mario is survived by his daughter, Gina Jonelle, her husband Todd Brownfield and their three sons Ben, Jack and Alex all of Bethel Park, Pa.
Also surviving are his sisters: Mary Roso and Emilia Kosinski both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and his brother-in-law, Richard Blosser and his wife Judy of Maryville, Tennessee.
In addition, Mario is survived by the following nephews and nieces: James Kosinski, Charles Kosinski, Sharon Rice Nolan, Deirdre Blosser Haneman, John Rice Jr., Peter Rice, Robert Rice, Joel Blosser and Tim Blosser; and by cousins: Father Luigi Miola and Louise Miola Ruffner and her husband Tom of Cleveland, Ohio; and by numerous cousins in Italy, Australia and Brazil.
