Ronald Raymond “Ron” Hormell Sr.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Ronald Raymond Hormell Sr., age 87, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly of Morgantown, West Virginia passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ronald Raymond Sr. was born on Wednesday, June 22, 1927 the son of Alfred Hormell and Mary Francis (Eutsey) Hormell in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Hormell was a decorated World War II Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Gavia and the USS Holland. He was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with one Star, the American Theatre Ribbon, and the Victory Metal.
He was also a proud member of the United States Navy SEABEES.
Mr. Hormell served as Commander of the American Legion Post 992 in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9916 in Westover, West Virginia for over 50 years.
In 1986, ‘Ron’ retired from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 152 with 61 years of service.
He was a member of the Socastee United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach and was a previous member of the Westover United Methodist Church in Morgantown.
‘Ron’ was preceded in death by his parents; by his first wife of 51 years, Mildred (Weiland) Hormell; two brothers and five sisters.
‘Ron’ is survived by his second wife, Lois (Matney) Hormell; his daughter, Linda Rogers of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his son, Ronald R. Hormell Jr. and wife Rebecca of Morgantown, West Virginia; six grand children: Kimberly McNerney, Michael Rogers, John Rogers, Greg Rogers, Holly Hormell and Heidi Hormell; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by three step daughters: Judy Smith, Jeanne Westfall, and Jayne Hall; six step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to his nephew Irvin Ewing and his wife Sharon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for all that they have done for him over the years.
Friends may call at McCULLA FUNERAL HOME, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, WV 26501 (304.291.3458) on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at the McCULLA FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Cain and Pastor Jo McCartney officiating.
Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery with graveside Military Honors conferred by the Westover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9916 and the Mount Morris American Legion Post 992.
