Local churches come together for Pray Connellsville
Asking for blessings for their community, local churches are gathering together from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday for an event called Pray Connellsville.
“We want to serve and go out and do what we do best, and that’s prayer,” said the Rev. Brian Higbee, senior pastor of City Church of Connellsville.
Sponsored by the Connellsville Area Ministerial Association, Pray Connellsville is expected to include at least 168 people from 10 local churches who will spread throughout Connellsville to pray over the city for one hour.
Participants will gather at City Church, located at 206 N. Pittsburgh St., at 9:30 a.m. for instruction and prayer before leaving for their posts at 9:45 a.m. Higbee said the city has been divided into seven sections and each section into 12 zones.
“Eighty-four prayer teams will walk every street and every alley,” said Higbee. “They will pray over every home, every family and every facility and ask God to bless each one.”
Each prayer team will consist of at least two people but more are expected. Anyone who wants to participate can call City Church at 724-628-0700.
In preparation, participants have been meeting for prayer since June, coming together once a month in June and July and then once a week in August. This week, the group is meeting nightly with the last meeting scheduled for tonight in anticipation of Saturday’s prayer event.
“For so long, the Church has been doing its job, but a lot of churches have been struggling,” said Higbee. “Our dream is to create a momentum in this city — not just for one church but for all the churches of the city. We believe God has one Church — a lot of houses but they make up one Church.
“Our desire is to truly bless the city as the churches of Connellsville come together in unity.”
