Fire destroys house in Uniontown

By Miles Layton jmlayton@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A fire seriously damaged a residence Sunday morning in Uniontown.

Uniontown fire Chief Buck Griffith said when firefighters arrived around 1:35 a.m., there was a woman trapped on the roof of the burning building at 46 Dunlap Street. He said soon after she was rescued, she disappeared along with the people he suspects were staying in the home.

Griffith said firefighters were very busy trying to contain the blaze, so they were unable get the names of the people who no one expected to leave the scene.

Griffith said after the fire was contained, he was still very concerned about the woman who had been trapped on the roof. Griffith said he went to Uniontown Hospital to see if the woman or anyone else went to be treated for smoke inhalation, but despite his best intentions, his search ended there.

Griffith said no injuries were reported and he described the damage as between 75 percent and a total loss. He said the fire appears to have been started from when a pot overheated on the kitchen stove. Griffith said the property’s owner, Jerry Belt, has been contacted about the matter.

Uniontown Fire Department was assisted by Fayette EMS.
