Gerald Wayne Wertz Sr.
Gerald Wayne Wertz Sr., age 71, of Hiller, Pa., died Friday, November 28, 2014 at home with his family by his side.
He was born Thursday February 25, 1943 in Baden, Pennsylvania son of George Wertz and Anna Mae Horner Wertz.
Gerald served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967 and stationed on board the USS Mauna Kea.
From 1967 to 1979, Gerald was in the United States Army Reserves and was the recipient of the Award of the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal for Exemplary Behavior, displaying a devotion to duty and an outstanding loyalty to his unit.
He was a member of American Legion Post 51 Uniontown Pennsylvania and Post 940 in West BrownsvillePennsylvania
Most of all, Gerald was a loving husband, dad and grandpap.
He was his son’s Hero!
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved working on watches.
Also, he was a slot car racer at the former Malden Racetrack and an avid race car fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, George Ross Wertz.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frances Wertz; son Jerry Wertz Jr. and wife Terri of East Millsboro, Pa.; grandson, Jerry Wertz III; two sisters: Connie Wertz of Brownsville, Pa., and Charlotte Miller and husband Lawrence, Monarch, Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law, Mary Wertz of Brownsville, Pa.
Friends will be received at the ALLISON CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 416 Vernon Street, Allison, Pa., on Friday, December 5th, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will begin at 7 p.m.
