Anniversary set to remember lives lost in mine disaster

Saturday will mark the 52nd anniversary of the Robena No. 3 Mine disaster that claimed 37 lives.

United Mine Workers of America Local Union (UMWA) 1980 and UMWA District II will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Robena Monument located on Route 21 near the Hatfield Power Plant in Masontown.

Daniel J. Kane, UMWA International Secretary/Treasurer, will serve as the keynote speaker for the service. The public is invited to attend.
