A destructive fire couldn’t stop a Brownsville business from serving the community during the busy holiday season.

On Monday evening, a blaze ripped through Tri-County Heating & Cooling, destroying most of their inventory, many tools and personal belongings in the process.

But owner Terry Lent said they were able to bounce back and had repair vans out on the road the following day.

“We’re a service company. If someone in the community needs their furnace fixed, we go out and do it,” said Lent. “In this day and age, we can’t afford to lose customers and stop business.”

Repair technicians were able to continue their jobs because their vans are stocked with tools and various parts. But their surplus and inventory were all in the lost warehouse.

However, Lent said their part suppliers typically offer same-day or next-day shipping, so customers would hopefully not be inconvenienced.

Lent said he was alerted that his warehouse was on fire after a friend drove by and saw it in flames.

“When I got on the scene, the firefighters moved their hoses so I could move my repair vans. Those vans are crucial,” said Lent.

He was glad that none of the nearly 100 firefighters, from two counties, were injured as they responded to the fire.

“It won’t stop us from doing business,” said Lent, adding that they are in the process of looking for a new warehouse location in Brownsville. They were at the previous location for eight years.

In the meantime, Lent said the outreach and support from the community has been overwhelming. Also a member of the Greater Brownsville Area Chamber of Commerce, Lent said the chamber has really helped out.

“I just can’t believe the support we’ve received from our friends and customers,” said Lent in a press release. He also plans to have a banner up soon, assuring the community that the business is still up and running.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
