Oren “Smitty” Smith Jr.

Oren Smith Jr., ‘Smitty’, age 88, Georges Township, Uniontown, Pa died on Saturday, December 6, 2014.
He was born Saturday, February 20, 1926 the son of Oren Smith and Hazel (Myers) Smith.
Oren was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy
He was a member of the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., the Smithfield-Fairchance American Legion Post 278, and Alfred Wilson Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7219 in Fairchance, Pa.
He was a proud member of the Men of Chantz Band from 1958 to 1990.
Oren was the owner of the Smith Coal Yard, Smith Trucking, and Jackie’s Bar.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Oren and Hazel Smith; his wife of 62 years, Gloria ‘Jackie’ Smith; brother, Roy Smith; and brother-in-law, Charles Swenglish.
Surviving are his loving family: his children Candice Jordan and her husband James of Lake Lynn, Pa., and Theadore “Ted” Smith and his wife Brooke of Smithfield, Pa.; grand children: Jacquelyn Core, Theadore James Smith and Nicole Smith; great grandchildren: Preston Core, Jackson Core; siblings: Catherine Swenglish of Uniontown, Pa., Eugene Smith and wife Betty of Uniontown, Pa., and Ronald Smith and wife Martha of Fairchance, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws: Norma Smith and Robert Kennedy and his wife Mary Anne.
The family will greet friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, PA 15436 on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Private family Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 with Reverend Tom Holslag officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa., where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
