Additional grand jury presentments released

Fayette County Court of Common Pleas Judge Steve P. Leskinen has authorized criminal charges be filed against a former Franklin Township supervisor and his wife, the former secretary for the municipality, as recommended by the county Grand Jury.

The two-related presentments released Friday, allege that George and Cheryl Brozik conspired to remove and then destroy a computer hard drive belonging to the township, impairing the functions of the township.

In a third presentment, the Grand Jury did not recommend charges be filed against individuals or agencies by the district attorney’s office, but did find that record keeping and the system of payment for fundraisers and other business of the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department was “sorely inadequate and to make effective prosecution difficult, if not impossible.”

District Attorney Jack R. Heneks Jr. said that he has directed police file the recommended charges against the Brozik’s.

Heneks added that proper record-keeping is vital if some wrongdoing has taken place.

“Only then can we be in a position to isolate the wrongdoer and prosecute successfully when the supporting documentation is present,” he said.

Heneks indicated that other presentments remain under seal.
