Joseph L. “Joe” Scherer

Joseph L. Scherer, age 69, Masontown, Pa., passed away Wednesday December 10, 2014 at the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born in Greensburg, Pa., Sunday, February 11, 1945 the son of Albert G. Scherer and Gladys R. (Moyer) Scherer.
Joseph served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a retired Coal Miner and had worked at the Duquesne Light Mine for thirty-five years.
‘Joe’ loved to bowl and bowled in numerous leagues at the former Klondike Lanes, Manor Lanes and Suburban Lanes. He enjoyed bowling in all of the league with buddy Justin Malik, as well as Chuck Fischerkeller, Pat Fischerkeller, Bill Zeigler, Dan Doyle, Gary Meleady, plus with his deceased former bowling friends: Bill Santella, Larry ‘Taxi’ Roberts, Walt Wahula, Dan Barzanti, John Kingura, Church Fischerkeller Jr.
Joe bowled several perfect 300 games during his bowling career and many 700 series.
He will be missed by all!
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia ‘Toody’ Scherer; his parents; brothers, Bob, Jack and Bill; sisters, Margaret, Mary and Etta.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Tracy Kennedy and grandchildren Zachary Scherer, Jacob Richell, Meadow Kennedy, Skye Kennedy and Brady Scherer; his sister, Hazel Sharon and her husband Bill of Greensburg, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and his three beloved pets: Molly (the 2nd), Cookie and Wags who will miss him dearly.
Family and Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Ave., Masontown, Pa., Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. in Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Randy Byers officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and the American Legion Post 423 at 6 p.m.
Viewing will then continue until 8 p.m.
