Mark Leon Sweitzer

Mark Leon Sweitzer, age 66, of Markleysburg, Pa., passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.

He was born on Wednesday May 12, 1948 in Swanton, Maryland son of Junior Sweitzer and Pauline (Bittenger) Sweitzer.

Mark was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Army and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the American Legion in Cumberland, Maryland.

He was a Conductor with CSX Railroad with 36 years of service.

Mark was predeceased by his parents; and three siblings: Cleo Sweitzer, Roy Sweitzer and Norma Lee Guthrie.

Surviving are his loving wife, Bernice (Bates) Sweitzer; his daughter, Paula Marie (Sweitzer) Thorpe and her husband Samuel H. Thorpe Jr.,Markleysburg Pa.; three grandchildren: Julie Thorpe, Jonathan Thorpe and Jamie Jo Thorpe; two brothers and two sisters: Norman Sweitzer and wife Mary of Swanton, Maryland, Ervin Sweitzer and friend Theresa ‘Terrie’ of Grantsville, Maryland, Sharon Hebb of Swanton, Maryland, and Sheila Williams and husband Samuel of Swanton, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, FARMINGTON, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, December 16, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Martin Stewart officiating.

Interment will follow in Thomas Cemetery.
