Mary (Kovach) Smodic
Mary (Kovach) Smodic, age 92, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Hillside Manor Personal Care Home, Uniontown, Pa., after an extended illness.
She was born Saturday, November 18, 1922 in Brownsville, Pa., the daughter of Mary and Jacob Kovach. After her father’s death, she was raised and nurtured by her stepfather Rudy Hribar.
Before marriage, Mary held numerous jobs helping to support her family.
She was instrumental in helping her brother’s dream of a college degree become a reality.
She was selfless; always putting the wants and needs of her family before her own.
On Saturday, February 15, 1947, Mary became the bride of Walter ‘Walko’ Smodic. They shared 62 amazing years of marriage before Walter’s death in 2009.
In their retirement, they were passionate about traveling, bowling, playing cards, and helping to raise their grandchildren.
Both took pride in their home and helping their community.
Mary was known for her excellent skills in the kitchen. She loved showering her family and friends with favorite dishes and baked goods.
She was a Lifetime Member of the Pals Club Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents and her stepfather; brother, Frank Kovach; and her son-in-law, Frank Park.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Deborah Park, and son Walter ‘Wally’ Smodic and wife Debrah; adored grandchildren: Adrienne Park, Frank Park, Ryan Smodic, Alan Smodic, Tiffany Smodic, Ashley Smodic; and her precious great granddaughters: Lucy and Izabella.
Honoring the wishes of Mary, there will be no public viewing or visitation.
Funeral Services will be held at CHAPEL OF PEACE MAUSOLEUM AT LAFAYETTE MEMORIAL PARK, Brier Hill, Pa., on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Father James F. Petrovsky will officiate.
The family extends their gratitude to the administration and staff at the Hillside Manor Personal Care Home and to the ViaQuest Hospice nurses and aides for the support and care in helping to make Mary’s final days peaceful.
