A Uniontown man who was involved in an accident that killed a Perryopolis police officer this week, died Friday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Officer confirmed that Andrew V. Bohatch Jr., 59, died earlier in the day. He had been in critical condition at UMPC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Bohatch sustained major injuries after the vehicle he was driving collided with Officer Richard Champion’s police cruiser on Dec. 14 near the Big Red Barn on Route 51.

Police said Bohatch, heading northbound on Route 51, turned in front of Champion, who was headed southbound to pull someone over for a traffic violation.

Champion, 35, of Ligonier, died of blunt force injuries. After the collision, his cruiser caught fire. Champion’s funeral was held today at the Holy Trinity Parish in Ligonier.
