State police have accused a Dunbar man of aggravated assault after he allegedly rammed his truck into the back of car following an incident a local bar.

Police allege that Daryl Scott Provance, 51, used his truck to hit into a vehicle driven by Kevin Cropp after a night of drinking on Sunday.

According to a complaint filed in the case, Provance, Cropp and Mary Smith were drinking at a Dunbar bar that evening.

At some point, the workers at the Midway Bar refused to serve Provance because he was intoxicated, police said. The prompted Provance to try and fight with bar customers, police said, and he was thrown out.

Though Provance left the bar, he waited inside his truck for Smith and Cropp to leave, the complaint said.

Police allege that when Smith and Cropp drove away, he pursued them on Hill Farm Road. They attempted to elude Provance, but he followed them until they stopped at an intersection on West Crawford Avenue and Hill Farm Road, police said.

The complaint said that’s when Provance allegedly rammed his vehicle into the back of Smith and Cropp’s vehicle. Smith and Cropp sustained minor injuries from the collision and there was significant damage to the rear of their vehicle, the complaint said.

Police allege that after Provance rammed Smith and Cropp’s vehicle, he drove away. The complaint said police later discovered Provance’s vehicle, which sustained heavy front end damage, along Hill Farm Road. He had fled the scene, police said.

Provance was arrested Monday and charged with two accounts each of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with driving under the influence, simple assault and reckless endangerment, and one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol and disorderly conduct. Provance also faces several traffic citations.

He was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Richard Kasunic II, who set bond at $25,000. Provance remains in Fayette County Prison.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week.
