Two people are dead as a result of a one-vehicle accident along Springfield Pike, Route 711, in Springfield Township Friday afternoon.
State police said Suzanne Marie Williams, 37, of Mill Run, who was the driver of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fayette County Coroner Dr. Philip Reilly said Williams was pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m. Friday by Deputy Coroner Robert Furin. Cause of death was blunt force trauma.
An investigator for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner said that 16-year-old Skylar Williams was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. Friday at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Springfield Township.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office listed Skylar Williams’ address as Monessen, but state police said two boys who were passengers in Suzanne Williams’ vehicle were from Mill Run. The passengers were not identified by name but listed as a 16-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy and were flown from the scene by medical helicopter to Children’s and Presbyterian Hospitals in Pittsburgh. State police said in a press release Friday afternoon the 12-year-old boy was in stable condition.
According to Fayette County 911, the car crash occurred at 12:39 p.m. at the intersection of Mount Tabor Road and Springfield Pike on Route 711.
Mark Bigam, fire chief for the Normalville Volunteer Fire Department, said two people were ejected and one was entrapped inside the car. Firefighters worked for more than an hour to free the entrapped individual.
According to a witness, Merle Schomer, the car was traveling in the direction of Connellsville. Schomer said the car rounded the curve, lost control, hit an embankment, and crashed sideways into the utility pole, with the driver’s side on the ground.
“I remember seeing them lose control and them trying to straighten the wheel,” Schomer said. “It was pretty bad. I just pray they are all OK.”
Firefighters from Normalville, Saltlick and Connellsville townships, along with Fayette County EMS, were called to the scene.
