Two die in Greene County crash
State police said two Waynesburg people died in a head-on crash Monday on Route 21 in Greene County.
Police said vehicles driven by Sherry Lynn Espinoza, 23, and Amanda Lynn Whipkey, 19, collided head-on around 10:55 p.m. on Route 21 at Havers Hill Road in Jefferson Township.
Police said Espinoza and Whipkey were pronounced dead at the scene by Greene County Coroner Gregory Rohanna. The passenger in Whipkey’s vehicle, Richard Gump Jr., was taken to an area hospital. Police said the severity of Gump’s injuries is unknown, but did not appear life threatening.
Police said Espinoza was traveling west in a Saturn Ion on Route 21 and while negotiating a left curve, her vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a guard rail. After striking the guard rail, police said, she traveled across the west bound lane and into the east bound lane where the head-on collision with Whipkey’s Chevy Cavalier occurred.
