Dolores Jean (Watson) Jones
Dolores Jean (Watson) Jones, 70, of Haydentown, Pa., passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, February 2, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 1, 1943 in Lake Lynn, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Carl and Esther (Naylor) Watson.
Following her graduation in 1961 from Fairchance-Georges High School, she went to Washington D.C. and worked for the U.S. Information Agency under the direction of Edward R. Murrow as a personal secretary. Over the years, she had worked at West Virginia University as an assistant to the director of financial aid, was a clerk at the Worker’s Compensation Board in Uniontown, and later at the Herald-Standard Newspaper as evening receptionist where she composed obituaries.
Dolores was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation, an avid reader and published author, and a passionate member and spokesperson for the Native American Association. She enjoyed all things related to nature and animals.
She loved her husband, children and grandchildren. Left to honor her memory is her loving husband of 52 years, Willie Jones, a native of Kountz, Texas; four children and their spouses, Stephen Jones of Smithfield, Phillip W. and Mindy Jones of Uniontown, Mary K. and Bryan Watson of Hopwood, and Carla L. and Bill Bendishaw of Ma sontown. Dolores was very proud of her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with one more expected; and she is survived by a number of loving cousins. Her memory will always be cherished, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., on Thursday, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM, and Friday until 11:00 AM, the hour of service, with Carl Heiter as speaker. Private interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Geneva.
At Dolores’ request, memorials may be offered to: Fayette Friends of Animals, 223 Searights-Herbert Road, P.O. Box 1282, Uniontown, PA 15401.
