Two new hotels on the horizon in South Union
Two new hotels are coming to Fayette County, with groundbreakings projected to be in late spring.
Hilton Garden Inn will be a 119-room hotel located at the corner of Route 40, Wayland Smith Drive and Synergy Drive in South Union Township.
The hotel will include conference rooms, an indoor pool, restaurant, cocktail lounge and a fitness spa, among other amenities.
The hotel will break ground this spring and developers are projecting a spring 2015 open date.
Fairchance Construction Co., owned by the Balling family, along with Synergy Real Estate Corp. of Uniontown, lead a group of local business leaders who are spearheading the hotel’s development.
Allan Wampler, managing member of Synergy Real Estate, said the hotel will create more than 100 construction-related jobs and will create 60 permanent jobs. He said the hotel will cost in excess of $15 million to build and open.
“The Ballings saw the local need for more hotel rooms in Uniontown, but not just rooms, they wanted to deliver something fresh, something better,” Wampler said.
Holiday Inn Express is planning an 88-room, four-story hotel that will include a pool and conference rooms among other amenities on Mary Higginson Lane in South Union. L.K. Dholu Inc. of Clearfield is the developer. The hotel will employ 30 full-time workers and is slated to be open by spring 2015.
“The hotel would be a good fit for the Uniontown and the area,” said Nick Patel, president of L.K. Dholu Inc. “I think this hotel will be a good addition to the township.”
McMillen Engineering of Uniontown is the civil engineering consultant for both projects.
“These projects are great for Fayette County because they provide jobs during construction, and afterward, when the hotels are completed, they provide full-time jobs,” said Terry McMillen Sr., owner of McMillen Engineering.
The two hotels will be added to a third hotel — Comfort Suites, an 80-room, multi-story facility currently under construction on New Salem Road behind the Sheetz convenience store and Bob Evans restaurant.
“This is good news for the township and Fayette County,” said township Supervisor Bob Schiffbauer. “Supervisors have placed a strong emphasis on trying to stimulate economic development to try to create as much growth as possible.”
Schiffbauer said the Comfort Suites hotel should be completed either by late fall or early spring next year. He said the hotel should employ 20-25 people when completed.
