John M. Chatlak
John M. Chatlak, age 82, passed away Saturday morning, February 15, 2014 in the Uniontown Hospital with his loving wife and children by his side.
John was born in Donora, Pa., September 23, 1931 the son of Mary (Petrus) Chatlak and John Chatlak Sr.
He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, Pa.
John graduated from Donora High School and from the University of Pittsburgh with Bachelor of Science in Business.
He was a former Magistrate in Monessen.
John was a Central Committeeman in Masontown for 35 years.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and served a stint in Korea.
John was also a past Commander and a Life Member of the American Legion Post 423, past Commander and a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, past President and a member of the Pals Club all of Masontown, and a member of the AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.
John was a kind and gentle man, and was a loving and most devoted husband to his beloved wife, Donna Chatlak.
He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Carla Howard; and sister Jean and her husband Joseph Zelczak.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Donna R. (Bezjak) Chatlak; children: John Chatlak and wife Nancy of Wheeling, West Virginia, Kim Garnic and husband Andrew of Rostraver Township, Pa., Karen Martell and husband Wayne, Quinton, Virginia Lisa Chatlak and fiance Chuck, Masontown, Pa., Vince Zapotosky and wife Carol of Uniontown, Pa., and David Howard; grandchildren whom he adored: Logan Howard, Megan Howard, William Zapotosky, Christopher Martell and Savannah Martell. John is also survived by his brothers, Tom Chatlak and wife Debbie and children of Canonsburg, Pa., and Bob Chatlak and wife Gloria and children also of Canonsburg, Pa.; brothers-in-laws: Alex Bezjak, Uniontown, Pa., Joe Bezjak and Mickey Bezjak of New Geneva, Pa., Carl and Lara Bezjak and children Alley and Bryn of Uniontown, Pa. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
All relatives and friends of John will long cherish the fond memories of this very exceptional and gentle man. He is departed but will not be forgotten.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Ave., Masontown Pa., Tuesday, February 18, from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday until 9:30 a.m when Prayer Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Church, 101 West Church Avenue Masontown, Pa., with Rev. Father James F. Bump as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423 of Masontown.
