Wharton supervisor appointed to committee of association
WHARTON TWP. — Longtime township Supervisor Jim Means has been appointed to serve on the Resolutions Committee of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors.
Means, chairman of the supervisors, was appointed to the committee for the first time in January by the vote of the association.
“I’m ready, and I’m not afraid to argue,” Means said. “It will be different, interesting, and hopefully be a plus for this township.”
The committee reviews and acts on resolutions submitted by county associations of township officials before they are voted on by delegates to the association’s annual educational conference.
“This way, I will know the rules and regulations, we will know what is going on before it happens,” Means said.
The association represents the state’s 1,454 townships, “and is committed to preserving and strengthening township government and securing greater visibility and involvement for townships in the state and federal political arenas,” according to a news release.
In other matters, supervisors voted to approve the future Christian Klay distillery land development plan, under the condition that the approved sewage module is completed.
Supervisors Vice Chairman Jack Lewis said the owners of the Christian Klay W. Winery on Fayette Springs Road in Chalk Hill want to put a distillery across the street.
Means added that there is no telling if or when the distillery will be open for business.
The next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the municipal building.
