Edward Gene Maust
Edward Gene Maust, 85, of Severna Park, MD and formerly of Uniontown, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014.
He was born in Uniontown, Pa on July 21, 1928, the son of the late Charles and Margaret (VanSwearingen) Maust.
During and after graduation from North Union Township High School, he worked for H.L. Martin and Sears Roebuck respectively as a sales clerk before entering the United States Army in 1951. He spent 7 months in combat in Korea, being awarded a bronze star and reaching the rank of Sargent First Class before returning home to attend West virginia University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with Honors in 1956.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran in Uniontown, Pa., then St. Paul’s in Charleston, W.Va., and finally St. Marks in Springfield, Virginia, where he was a member of each churches choir. Singing was his passion and he was a tenor with a beautiful voice.
While living in Charleston, he performed with the West virginia Opera Theater, the Madrigal Singers of Clarksburg and the Charleston Light Opera Guide. After relocating to Springfield, he sang with the Springfield Chorale and Orchestra for many years.
He spent his career managing network services for C & P Telephone and later Verizon before retireing to play golf and enjoy his quiet time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Brown and wife, Aileen.
He is survived by his nieces, Joy Dotson and LuAnn Yates and nephews, Phil and Jim Brown and Gilbert Burns, II.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 11 a.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Anderson officiating.
