Greene Co. engineer given more time for bridge projects
WAYNESBURG — Greene County commissioners agreed Thursday to grant time extensions to the county engineer for various projects involving six county-owned bridges that are scheduled to eventually be rebuilt.
County Chief Clerk Jeff Marshall said the agreements with Widmer Engineering Inc. of Connellsville will allow time extensions until later this year and next year for numerous projects, including preliminary and final design work, construction and inspections on the bridges.
All six of the bridges are expected to be completely rebuilt over the next few years, pending state funding, Marshall said.
Time extensions were approved for: Bridge No. 89, which is located over Browns Run in Morgan Township, until Dec. 31, for construction and inspection purposes; Bridge No. 97, located over Craynes Run in Washington Township, until Aug. 29, for final design work; Bridge No. 15, located over Muddy Creek in Cumberland Township, until Dec. 31, 2015, for preliminary design work; Bridge No. 78, located over Owens Run in Richhill Township, until Aug. 29, for preliminary design work; Bridge No. 55, located over Bloody Run in Gilmore Township, until Dec. 31, 2015, for preliminary design work; and Bridge No. 36, located over Roberts Run in Wayne Township, until Aug. 29, for preliminary design work.
Marshall said construction on Bridge No. 89 is expected to begin Monday, and construction on Bridges 97 and 78 is slated to begin sometime next year. No timetable has been set yet for construction to begin on the other bridges, Marshall said.
