Helen Duranko Capranica
Helen Duranko Capranica, age 91, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2014 in Generations Elder Care.
She was born in Continental, Pa., October 15, 1922 the daughter of the late John and Anna (Kotrady) Duranko.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel J. Capranica Sr., whom she married on February 24, 1946; and the following sisters and brothers: Mary Petko, Anna Duall, Martha Kozel, Sophia Yuhas, John Duranko, Catherine Koschock, Stephen Duranko and Joseph Duranko.
Helen was a member of Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church.
She graduated from the former North Union High School.
She was a devoted mother and housewife.
Helen was co-owner of Sammy’s Tavern where she worked many years with her husband, Samuel Capranica.
She is survived by her loving children: Diane Santore and husband Don, Lois Martin, and Samuel Capranica and wife Deborah all of Uniontown, Pa.; grand children: Don Santore and wife Laura, Eric Santore and wife Nicole Stephanie Szwerc and husband Michael, William Martin and wife Stephanie, Erin Capranica and fiancé Bill Fischer, Ashley Chestnut and husband Luke; three great grandchildren: Anna Szwerc, Catherine Szwerc, Lucas Santore; brother, George Duranko and wife Dorothy; sister-in-law Margaret Duranko numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family would like to thank the owner and the staff of Generations Elder Care for their compassion and loving care. A special thank you to the Amedisys Hospice Staff, especially Kim, Cassie and Pastor Mike.
Friends will be received in KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today, Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2 to 8 p.m. and Monday morning until 9:15 a.m. when Parting Prayers will be said.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, V.F., Pastor, as celebrant
Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery
Parish Wake Service will be held today at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
