William ‘Bill’ Cleveland Hewitt
William ‘Bill’ Cleveland Hewitt, age 85, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home with his family at his side.
He was born Thursday January 17, 1929 in Mill Run, Pa., the eldest son of William Orville Hewitt and Melvin Marie (Gallentine) Hewitt.
‘Bill’ attended school in German Township.
Throughout his life, he worked as a Machine Operator for Hagan Dairy and Country Bell Dairy.
Bill retired from Brad Ragan Tire Company in 1987 at the age of 58.
Bill served in United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Laurel F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge No. 651, Elks Lodge 503, Valley of Pittsburgh Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 51 and the North Union Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.
Bill enjoyed spending his time gardening and finishing other projects around his home.
He was also an avid movie collector. His collection included nearly 4000 movies on DVD and VHS.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Sterling Hewitt, Wendell K. Hewitt, Dwayne Hewitt; mother-in-law, Frances Elizabeth Gordon; his father-in-law, Archie Gordon; and a sister-in-law, Elva G. Downs and her husband James.
Left to cherish Bills memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Lois (Gordon) Hewitt; five siblings: Philip Hewitt and wife Martha, Connie Brickner and husband Ted, Gary Hewitt and wife Donna, Richard Hewitt and wife Josie, and Loraine Day all of Beaver Falls, Pa.; two aunts: Katheryn Davis of Champion, Pennsylvania and Beryldene Wilcox of Youngstown, Ohio; special nieces and nephews: Lori and Mark Wasler, Heather Wasler, Eugene and Charlotte Gordon, and Jennifer and Kelly Gordon. ‘Bill’ will also be remembered by numerous other nieces, n e p h e w s, f a m i l y members, close friends.
Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown PA 15401 today, Sunday, February 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Franklin Bishop, Pastor Terry Taluch and Pastor Dan Brant officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 51 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.
Interment will be privately held in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
A Masonic Service will be held by Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel today, February 23, at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation was also held on Saturday, February 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m
