Anti-violence group holds vigil Saturday
Uniontown Area Anti-Violence Movement will host a candlelight vigil Saturday in the wake of a woman’s death.
Rashaunda Fitzgerald was stabbed last Saturday at a Fairchance bar.
Darius Lee “Boo” Samuel, 22, was charged by police on Saturday with criminal homicide among other charges after he allegedly stabbed Fitzgerald and injured three others at the bar.
The anti-violence group will hold the candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday at the East End United Community Center 150 Coolspring St., Uniontown.
The event is open to the public and may feature speakers from the Uniontown area.
The anti-violence movement is a Christ-centered organization that is committed to eliminating violence in Uniontown at the community level through awareness, strengthening community leadership and providing anti-violence education and information.
Gabriella Locke said she organizes events like this as a way to pursue an anti-violence movement.
Locke said the Saturday’s candlelight vigil is about remembrance.
“This was inspired not only by the stabbing over the weekend but all victims of violence,” Locke said. “We want to hold this vigil while the events from the weekend are still fresh in people’s minds.”
