The Mountain Weatherman: Weekend Winter Storm

2 min read

The wind was howling here yesterday and the little bit of snow we had blew into some pretty good snow drifts in places here in the mountains, the things calmed down overnight allowing the temperatures to fall off the table.  The high yesterday was another record low maximum of 19, the overnight low -14, shattering the old record of -4, and at 7AM we were -14 under clear skies.  We had about ½ inch of snow with .02 inches liquid equivalent and we have 11 inches on the ground.  We’ll warm to the mid 20’s today under lots of sunshine.  Not nearly as cold tonight with a chance for a little light snow late tonight into tomorrow morning that may give us a fresh coating. We’ll have temperatures near normal tomorrow then it looks like the big winter storm that’s moving across the country will start us off with some rain at night changing to sleet and snow by Sunday morning.  That sleet and snow will last through Monday.  Accumulations could be very heavy and will depend on how much sleet we get but travel will be difficult through the mountains Sunday afternoon into Monday.
