Charles F. ‘Chuck’ Brittain, 89 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday morning, January 9, 2014 in Mt. Pleasant. Chuck was born February 2, 1924 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Morgan)Brittain. Chuck married the former Margaret ‘Peg’ Spencer on July 30, 1949.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was agraduate of Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, where he was a starting lineman on the school’s Pittsburgh City League co-championship football team of 1942. He was stationed in England, France, Germany, and Austria with the US Army during WWII, serving as a sergeant. From 1950 until 1983 he was employed with Screw & Bolt Corporation of America (Modulus Corporation) working as a product scheduler. Chuck was a longtime member at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Scottdale and a lay minister for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Scottdale Association of Churches and a loyal member and Past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #777 in Scottdale where he served in all ritualistic offices at various times and for many years was the lodge secretary. Chuck also held membership with the Marion Masonic Lodge #562 and the VFW Post #7781, both in Scottdale.

Chuck will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 64 years, Margaret ‘Peg’ (Spencer) Brittain; his two sons, Paul S. Brittain and his wife Kathleen of Mt. Pleasant and Charles B. Brittain and his wife Judy of Scottdale; his grandson, Christopher A. Brittain and his wife Caroline of Lakewood, NJ; his sister, Mabel Greaby of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Thomas C. Brittain (2006); and his four brothers, Howard, Joseph, Robert, and John Brittain.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278).

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 AM Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM in St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church with Rev. Charles martin officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in St. Piux X Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be made to: Scottdale Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund. The Scottdale Elks Lodge #777 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 PM Saturday in the funeral home. Love Lasts Forever!
