John Lewis Arshen

John Lewis Arshen, age 65, of York Run, Fayette County, Pa., passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at his home as a result of his extended battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away with his loving daughter Selina at his bedside who was his caretaker during his illness.
John was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 15, 1949 the son of George and Sophia Arshen.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother, George and Sophia Arshen; and his brother, George William Arshen.
John graduated from Fairchance-Georges High School in 1967.
He also attended Penn State University studying Mining Engineering.
He was employed as a Boilermaker with the Boilermakers Union 154 in Pittsburgh, Pa., since 1988 until his retirement several years ago.
John was an outdoors man, avid fisherman, and gardener.
His greatest love was vacationing in the Keys, Florida with his daughter Selina and friends Lou and Laura Davis. They spent several years there fishing and enjoying the area.
John also cherished the times he spent fishing with his beloved brother Bill for Walleye and Perch on Lake Erie.
John was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the war from March 4, 1969 until March 3, 1971.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 278 in Fairchance Pennsylvania and the D i s a b l e d A m e r i c a n Veterans Fayette Chapter No. 58.
Left to cherish and remember John are his ex-wife, Carla (Musgrave) Arshen; his son, John L. Arshen II and wife Dawn Arshen of Uniontown, Pa.; his daughter, Selina Arshen at home; his brother, Jack Wonkovich and wife Cheryl of Lakewood, Ohio; his sister, Georgetta Garcia of Shoaf, Pa., who was also his caregiver; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Arshen of Uniontown, Pa.; his grandsons: John Arshen and Alexander Arshen of Uniontown, Pa., who were the light of his life; his nephews: John Wonkovich and wife Barbara, Lakewood, Ohio and James Wonkovich of Lakewood, Ohio, Steven Garcia and Cathie of Nelsonville, Ohio; his niece, J a c q u e l i n e Zimmerman and husband Allen of Lakewood, Ohio; great nephews Alexander Zimmerman and Adam Zimmerman, Lakewood, Ohio, Eric Wonkovich of Lakewood, Ohio and Marcus Garcia of Nelsonville, Ohio; and great nieces: Ashley Wonkovich of Lakewood, Ohio, Nicole Zimmerman of Lakewood, Ohio and Rachael and Stephanie Garcia, Nelsonville, Ohio.
Friends will be received in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, PA 15436 on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Services, which will be conducted by the Reverend Roger Yeager, will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Veterans Section, Fairchance, Pa., with Military Rites accorded by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, Pa.
