Eleven young women will vie for the title of fair queen on July 24, opening night of the Fayette County Fair, which runs through Aug. 2 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Dunbar Township.

The contestants include the following:

Lyndsey Butler, 20, of Bullskin Township, served as fair princess in 2012 and 2013. She is a 2012 graduate of Connellsville Area Senior High School and 2014 graduate of Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh. Butler is a former member of 4-H.

Emily Diamond, 18, of Smithfield, is a 2014 graduate of Albert Gallatin Senior High School and will attend Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, as a freshman. She has 4-H projects in swine and dairy cattle.

Kenedy Geletko, 16, of Smithfield, attends Albert Gallatin Senior High School. She is a member of a 4-H horse club.

Caryna Hanan, 20, of Hopwood, is a student at Potomac State College in West Virginia. She is a former member of 4-H.

Lyndsey Huhn, 17, of Adah, is a student at California Area Senior High School. She belongs to 4-H lamb, swine and steer clubs.

Emily Kurilla, 20, of Point Marion, is a student at West Virginia University. She is a former member of 4-H.

Mea McDowell, 17, of Hopwood, is a student at Laurel Highlands Senior High School. She has lamb, steer and horse 4-H projects at this year’s fair.

Kaytlyne Povlik, 20, is from Normalville. She attends Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

Ally Ramsey, 16, of White, attends Connellsville Area Senior High School. She has steer and pig 4-H projects.

Cindi Weimer, 17, of Connellsville, attends Connellsville Area Senior High School. She will compete in the fair as a member of a 4-H horse club.

Alexis Wivell, 16, of Smock, attends Uniontown Area Senior High School. She has 4-H steer and pig projects at this year’s fair.

DeCarlo noted that contestants will arrive in the afternoon for judging that is closed to the public. This includes interviews and presentations.

The contestants will be introduced at the fair’s 6:30 p.m. opening ceremony in the Youth Building. They will ride in the firefighter’s parade and then come to the Fiddlers Building for the public portion of the competition that begins at 7:30 p.m. All the contestants will be introduced and model their gowns, but, because there are a large number of contestants, only the top five will give presentations during the public portion.

The judges will then select a fair queen and fair princess, who will act as goodwill ambassadors during the 10-day fair. The fair queen is eligible for state competition in January in Hershey.
