Carmichaels teen crowned Miss Rain Day

JEFFERSON — Morgan Voithofer, 15, was crowned 2014 Miss Rain Day during the 36th annual Miss Rain Day Scholarship Pageant, which was held Sunday in the Jefferson-Morgan High School auditorium.
Voithofer, daughter of Jason Voithofer and Heather Tokarcik, both of Carmichaels, will be a sophomore at Carmichaels Area High School. She was crowned by last year’s Miss Rain Day, Stephanie Mitchell, 17-year-old daughter of Jim and Becky Mitchell of Carmichaels.
First runner-up was Nina Rivera, 17-year-old daughter of Chad and Eryan Coss of Waynesburg. She will be a senior at Waynesburg Central High School.
Second runner-up was Caitlyn Ricco, 15-year-old daughter of Tom and Carrie Ricco of Carmichaels. She will be a sophomore at Carmichaels Area High School.
Voithofer also won the John O’Hara Award for writing the best essay, as well as the awards for Miss Personality, Top Personal Interview, Scholastic Achievement, Top Sportswear and Top Evening Gown.
Rivera also won the awards for Miss Photogenic and Top Talent, and Ricco won the Pageantry Spirit award, as well as the Remo C. Bertugli Memorial Award.
Carly Riggi, 16-year-old daughter of John and Josey Riggi of Rices Landing and a junior at Jefferson-Morgan Junior-Senior High School, won the Rain Maker award for collecting the most scholarships. She also won the Kelly Smotzer Memorial Award.This year’s pageant was coordinated by Rain Day Scholarship Inc. The Miss Rain Day contestants will perform on the main stage on Rain Day at 6:30 p.m. today.
