Mary “Mattie” (Kuis) Fiala
Mary ‘Mattie’ (Kuis) Fiala, age 97, Uniontown, and formerly of Dilliner, Pa., died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in Our Country Home, New Salem, Pa.
Born in Smithfield, Pa., on Tuesday, December 5, 1916, she was the last surviving child of the late Louis Kuis and Mary (Valant) Kuis.
A lifelong Catholic by faith, she was a very loving mother and grand mother, who enjoyed looking after her family.
In her spare time, she could be found tending to her vegetable garden, sewing, or working crossword puzzles.
Deceased are her husband, Michael Fiala who died on Sunday, November 9, 1997; three brothers, John Kuis, Frank Kuis, Joseph Kuis; a sister, Angeline Vargo.
Surviving are her four beloved children: Michael Fiala, Janet Mangiacarne, and Connie Wallace all of Uniontown Pa., and Marlene Warren of Spartanburg, South Carolina; six grandchildren and their families.
The family will receive friends in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 14, until 10:00 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home. Rev. Father Lawrence V. Holpp will officiate.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, Pa.
Vigil Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers at Our Country Home and to Amedisys Hospice for the loving care given to Mary during her illness.
