LCB issues warning about exploding wine bottles
HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has issued a warning to consumers after it received several reports of full wine bottles spontaneously exploding while on the shelves of local state stores, the board said.
Consumers are asked to carefully dispose of Indigenous Selections Prosecco Brut 2013, specifically the 750 ml bottles, the LCB said. Anyone who purchased this wine is warned to not attempt to return the bottle to the store but instead to dispose of it as soon as possible.
“Consumers should use caution when handling this product,” LCB Chairman Joseph E. Brion said. “While we have not had any reports from consumers who may have been affected, we want to take every precaution in order to avoid a safety issue.”
Brion said anyone who bought the wine should contact their local state store for a full refund.
The wine was sold for $12.99 in about 180 stores beginning in early June, the board said.
All bottles have since been removed from stores, and the LCB has contacted the vendor to determine the cause of the issue.
