Wilbert N. Brooks
Wilbert N. Brooks, age 86, of Vanderbilt, Pa. died quietly at his home on Friday, May 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 27, 1927 in Connellsville, Pa. son of Clifford Brooks and Mary Striner Brooks.
Wilbert was a Medic in the United States Army serving during World War II.
He established a successful construction business which was handed down to his three sons. Wilbert continued to be actively involved in the company until about two years ago, when his health began to fail.
Wilbert was such a presence in many lives and taught the trade of construction to many.
He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy J. (Prinkey) Brooks; a grandson Wibbie Brooks; brother, Calvin Brooks; sisters, Ella Campbell and Virginia Minor; nephews Clyde Campbell and Milford Bowers; brother-in-law, J. W. ‘Dub’ Prinkey; sister-in-law, Hilda Pegg; father-in-law, James F. Prinkey.
He is survived by his six children: Calvin Brooks, Kenny Brooks, Vernon Brooks, Kim Sage, Gail Burkholder, Gay Abdallah and his sons and daughters-in-laws. He was ‘Pap’ to 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
One brother, Byron Brooks and wife Geri of California state as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive; and Joan Smitley, his significant other for the past 13 years.
Friends will be received today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., where Services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson will officiate.
Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in the Normalville Cemetery.
