Mary Margaret (Sterbutzel) Matzus
Mary Margaret (Sterbutzel) Matzus, age 71, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia with her family by her side.
She was born Monday, August 24, 1942 in McClellandtown, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert Leo Sterbutzel and Mary Margaret (Phillippi) Sterbutzel.
Mary was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Uniontown Chapter 263 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the AMVETS Post 103 Ladies Auxiliary, and President of AFSCME Sub Chapter 8404 retirees.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John S. ‘Jack’ Matzus; b r o t h e r, Donald Sterbutzel; and nephew, Richard Layhew.
She is survived by four sons: John Matzus and wife Victoria, Uniontown, Pa., Michael Matzus and wife Tina, Uniontown, Pa Mark Matzus and wife Marilyn of Fairchance, Pa., Matthew Matzus and wife Denise of Hopwood, Pa.; seven grandchildren: Britni, Larissa, Nicholas, Aaron, Logan, Shelby and Brittany; a sister, Lois Layhew; brothers: Raymond, Robert, Kenneth, Carl, Richard, James, Keith and David Sterbutzel; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 680 CHERRY TREE LANE Uniontown, Pa., on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held Wednesday, May 14, at 9:15 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Parish, 61 Mill Street Uniontown with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, V.F., Pastor, as Celebrant.
Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery
Parish Wake Service will be held in funeral home Tuesday at 3 p.m.
