Nora Catherine “Kay” (Hugh) Brown
Nora Catherine ‘Kay’ Hugh Brown, age 80, of Bethesda, Maryland died Monday, May 12, 2014 at Suburban Hospital after suffering a stroke.
She was the wife of the late Honorable Ainsworth H. Brown.
Born September 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Hugh of Smithfield, Pennsyvlania.
She is survived by her sons: the Rev. Timothy (Ann) Seitz-Brown of Spring Grove, Pa., Neil Brown of Langhorne, Pa., and Matthew (Joanna) Brown, Washington, D.C.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Marybeth.
She is also survived by grandchildren: C.J., Marybeth and Jeremy Seitz-Brown, Nicholas Brown, Elijah and Joshua Brown; brother, Daniel Hugh (Nancy) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and sisters: Janet Hugh of Wilmington, North Carolina and Rosemary Trump of Murrysville, Pennsylvania.
‘Kay’ graduated from Georges Township High School Class of 1951, Wilson College in 1955, and Duke University, 1962, with a Masters in Economics.
She received the Alexander Loeb gold medal for having the highest score in Pennsylvania on national C.P.A. examination.
She also received the Elijah Watt Sells award for being in the top 10 in the nation.
She worked for the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland, the S m a l l B u s i n e s s Administration in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and the IRS in Philadelphia.
She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mountaintop, Pa., and Temple Lutheran Church in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
She wrote several family histories, and laughingly called herself the world’s foremost authority on the Preston County West Virginia Elsey family.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the MOUNT MORIAH CEMETERY CHAPEL at the intersection of Route 119 and Church Street in Smithfield, Pennsylvania preceded by a viewing at 10 a.m. Pastor Margaret Marks will officiate.
