Melbourne Hughes, 83 years, Uniontown, Pa., passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013.

He was born November 30, 1930 in Dunbar, Pa.

‘Mel’ was a veteran of the Korean War having served Honorably as an Artillery Specialist.

He was formerly employed by Bloch Steel of Seattle, Washington, Columbia Gas of PA and Steel Scaffolding.

He was a member of American Legion Post 51, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47, Fraternal Order of Eagles.

‘Mel’ was very active with local softball teams throughout the years.

Surviving are a son, James William Hughes and his wife Tahnee of Uniontown; five step children: Jay Cronin and his wife Michelle and Michael Cronin all of Uniontown, Tina Swaney and husband Timothy of Addison, Pa., Rhonda Garletts and husband Steve of Dunbar, Pa., and Mary Lou Dewitt and her husband Brian of Connellsville, Pa.; many grandchildren and other family members.

A Graveside Committal service under direction of the SHELL FUNERAL HOME INC. will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. at OAK LAWN CEMETERY, Uniontown with Military Honors accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
