New Saltlick Township voting location announced
All Saltlick Township residents will have to cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary at the municipal building, a last-minute change that became necessary when the regular precinct burned down over the weekend.
Fayette County Election Bureau Director Larry Blosser said that the municipal building, located at 147 Municipal Building Road in Indian Head, replaces the Indian Creek Valley Community Center in Normalville.
The center was destroyed Saturday, prompting response from three counties’ firefighters, who battled the blaze for nearly five hours. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The center had been selected to be the new polling location for all voting, following the recent consolidation of the township’s three districts.
In April, the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas upheld several consolidation requests by the election bureau. The consolidations were based on lower voter turnout, lack of election day staffing and access to certain buildings.
New voting locations include:
Connellsville — East Side Fire Station, for those formerly voting at the Zachariah Connell Elementary School, and Calvary Assembly of God, for those formerly voting at the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
Dunbar Township — Joseph A. Hardy/Connellsville Airport, for those formerly voting at Dunbar Township Elementary School, and Connellsville Alliance Church, for all voters of Districts 2 and 3.
German Township — German Township Municipal Building, for those formerly voting at the American Legion on Route 21 and at the Ronco Volunteer Fire Department.
