WVU Hospitals hires new president
Albert L. Wright Jr. has been hired as the new president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals.
Wright is currently the vice president for operations at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian Shadyside. He was hired after a national search to replace Bruce McClymonds, who is retiring at the end of this month after serving as president for 14 years. Wright takes over on Aug. 11.
Christopher C. Colenda, president and CEO of the West Virginia United Health System and chancellor of WVU Health Sciences, announced Wright’s hiring Tuesday.
Ruby Memorial of WVU Hospitals Inc. is a tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 trauma center. It currently has 531 beds and will be expanding to 645 beds when construction of a new tower is complete in 2016. It is the flagship institution of the West Virginia United Health System, which also includes hospitals in Parkersburg, Bridgeport, and the Eastern Panhandle.
