New business: Steel House

A new fitness and training facility opened on Oct. 6 in Dunkard Township that offers 10 unique fitness classes that are popular in various parts of the country.
Owner of the House of Steel Fitness Hub, Lori Rosensteel has been a personal trainer in the area for the past five years, but saw a need for group fitness with options in the area.
“I think sometimes women are intimidated to go to a gym, but here we don’t have any machinery or free weights,” she said.
Rosensteel wanted to offer more choices when it comes to fitness classes, so she did some research and found some unique classes that are not offered anywhere else in the area.
Of the ten classes offered, zumba, insanity, yoga and boot camp are the most common.
A class called pound is a 50-minute full-body cardio jam session that combines light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, pilates, isometrics and plyometrics. Those who take the class are guaranteed to burn 400-900 calories during the session.
Inspired from studios in New York, ballerobica barre is a moderate to high intensity 50 minute total body workout that combines the fundamentals of ballet with cardio and strength training.
The most popular class so far is the turbo kick, which incorporates cardio kickboxing and dance moves. The high intensity and fast-paced workout is choreographed to the latest music hits.
Dance it out is a high energy cardio dance workout that is infused with more than 20 styles of dance including hip hop, bollywood, line dancing, ballroom, disco, African, Irish, Russian and more.
And finally, belly dancing body fitness uses simple belly dancing techniques to focus on the core.
“There are classes here that you can’t get in the area, and that was the idea, to bring in something new and fun that you’ve never tried,” Rosensteel said.
The classes are taught by seven instructors and are designed to incorporate varying levels of fitness, offering moderations for different moves.
“Women are very social,” Rosensteel said. “There is a need for group fitness that fosters that social aspect.”
In The House of Steel’s future, Rosensteel said she would like to bring in Silver Sneakers and cycling.
Rates for current classes range from $20 to $60 for monthly subscriptions. Anyone may drop in to any class for $5. Packages are also offered to mix and match classes.
The 1,800 square foot area features a studio with three big screens to promote motivational videos and a separate yoga room.
The House of Steel Fitness Hub is located at 5001 West Crawford Avenue in Connellsville by the Ice Mine. For more information, call (724) 469-3353, or visit www.rosensteeltraining.com.
“We’re really excited to be here, and we hope to be here a long time. Our membership roster is building, and that’s very exciting for us. I hope people take advantage of the fact that they have these things in their backyard.
