A Laurel Highlands Middle School teacher has been arrested in West Virginia for allegedly soliciting a 15-year-old girl on the internet.

Daniel McGarvey, 44, of Uniontown, was arrested Friday by Bridgeport, W.Va. police after he allegedly made plans to meet with a 15-year-old girl to have sex. McGarvey stated in a text message conversation that he would get a hotel room Friday and would meet her and take her to the room.

When McGarvey showed up at the designated meeting place Friday, he was taken into custody by the Bridgeport police.

McGarvey is the choral teacher at Laurel Highlands Middle School. Laurel Highlands Superintendent Jesse Wallace said he could not comment as to whether McGarvey was currently teaching at the school.

“There’s not a whole lot I can say. I know it’s a police investigation and it’s ongoing, so there’s not much I can say,” Wallace said.

according to Bridgeport police Lt. Gary Weaver, McGarvey first made contact with the teen on Sept. 22 through a social media website ad saying he was seeking a younger woman.

“There was continual contact. There was email and text messaging,” Weaver said.

McGarvey is charged with soliciting a minor via computer. He was arraigned and lodged in the North Central West virginia Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
