Francis “Zeb” Mattie

Francis ‘Zeb’ Mattie, age 90, formerly of Grindstone Pennsylvania went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.

He was born on Sunday, August 17, 1924 in Allison, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the son of Ettore Mattei, Serafina Mattei Colabianchi.

Mr. Mattie was employed with Vesta Mines, J&L Steel Corporation and also enjoyed working as a carpenter.

Zeb was also a member of the Grindstone Fire Department.

Francis was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a beloved sister, Nellie (Mattie) Meloni; and his brothers, Raymond Mattie, Amerigo Mattie, Sereno Mattei; and his stepfather, Antonio Colabianchi.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jerry (Dugan) Mattie; and his surviving children are Monica Mattie, Lori (Patrick) Coll, Deborah Domingo, Sireno (Sharon) Mattie, and Antoinette (Francis) Bobcheck. Mr. Mattie was the loving Grandfather of William F. Mattie, Michael Coll, Zachery Coll, Emily Coll, Tyler Domingo, Tiffany (Sean) Roach, Sireno Mattie, Joseph Bobcheck and the Great Grandfather of Payton Roach.

‘Zeb’ is also survived by his sister, Sara J. Piccolomini; a sister in-law Cecelia E. (Durachinsky) Mattie, many and nephews, including Ricky ‘Griz’ Mattie, who rarely left his side; and best friends: Pete Perazzola and William ‘Bill’ Kasovich.

Friends were received on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the THOMAS M. DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, 136 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, PA 15401.

Interment followed in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.

Left to cherish his memories are family and friends.
