Jame P. “Jim” Gluvna

James P. Gluvna “Jim” age 59, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014.

Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, he moved to Bradenton in 1977 from Columbus, Ohio.

A graduate of Mapletown High School in 1972, he went on to college at Ohio State University and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. While in college, ‘Jim’ lived in the Stadium Scholarship Dormitory, was a member of the Pharmacy Drug Abuse Committee, and also President of Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity for three years.

He received the Rexall Achievement Award for Community involvement.

Jim’s career spanned 37 years.

He worked for Eckerd Drugs from 1977 to 1982. He was the first Pharmacy Manager in Sarasota for the Publix Supermarkets from 1988 to 1990, and was Partner/Owner in two Bradenton Pharmacies — Mount Vernon Pharmacy from 1982 to 1988 and Garrett’s Drugs from 1990 to 2006.

He worked for Walgreens from 2006 to 2014, when he retired.

His past memberships include the Manasota Pharmacy Association and APHA.

James was a lifetime member of Ohio State University Alumni, the Ohio State University Pharmacy Alumni Association, Manasota Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Current memberships include the Florida Pharmacy Association; Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, and The Knights of Columbus (K of C) Council No. 13341//K of C Assembly.

Jim was a major sponsor of the Bradenton Ballet Repertoire.

He was the Cub and Boy Scouts Committee Leader from 1985 to 1999

Jim also enjoyed sponsoring dozens of T-Ball, Little League, Volleyball, Hockey and Baseball teams at MCC and local high schools.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. Gluvna Sr. and Mary C. Gluvna; and a brother, Joseph P. Gluvna Jr.

He is survived by his life partner, Delores E. Pufahl of Myakka City, Florida; two sons: James P. Gluvna II (Sara) of Bradenton, Florida and Joseph P. Gluvna of Reunion, Florida; one daughter, Jennifer E. of Daytona Beach, Florida; four brothers: Frank M. (Renee) Sarasota, Florida George S. (Barbara) of Northridge, California, Edward J. (Pam) of Greensboro, Pa., and William M. of Wareham, Massachusetts; a sister, Mary Jo Ryan (Jim) of Lombard, Illinois. Jim is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dee of Hershey, Pa.; a granddaughter, Madelynn Elizabeth; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Christian Funeral Mass will be said Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 12905 East State Road 70 Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.

Honoring Jim’s request donations in lieu of other tokens of sympathy may be made to The Knights of Columbus Council No. 13341 (in care of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at the above address).
